Set against the lush, undulating hills of Kyoto, The Obsidian Residence is a striking study in contextual contrast. The structure is clad entirely in charred cedar (Shou Sugi Ban), creating a monolithic silhouette that absorbs the surrounding light, yet paradoxically feels entirely weightless within the dense forest canopy.
Internally, the spatial narrative flips. Vast expanses of minimalist structural glass draw the landscape inward, blurring the threshold between the built environment and the natural world. Precision-crafted raw concrete and warm copper accents define the interior volumes, ensuring a tactile, grounded living experience that fosters profound serenity.
